Rovi Technology Innovation Showcased at IBC 2011 Brings Cutting-Edge Solutions to Digital Entertainment Ecosystem in Europe

Rovi's Breadth of Entertainment Technologies at Show Include New MainConcept(R) Codec SDK 9 and TotalCode(TM) Offerings

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 9, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IBC 2011 - This week at IBC 2011 in Amsterdam, Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI) will showcase its new technologies and services for content producers, consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers, service providers, and other professionals engaged in the creation, discovery, access and enjoyment of digital entertainment. The IBC 2011 conference follows on Rovi's recent announcements at IFA 2011 in Berlin and IBC attendees will again be able to see firsthand the latest Rovi innovations that are contributing to an enhanced digital consumer entertainment experience in Europe.

Rovi will showcase its newest technologies for the European market at the Rovi booth (Hall 5, Stand A31):

  • MainConcept Codec SDK version 9, will enable developers to quickly take advantage of many of the very latest codec and network streaming technologies for the creation of innovative entertainment products.
  • Rovi TotalCode, a new line of high-quality encoding solutions with advanced capabilities enables post-production facilities, broadcasters, cable operators and digital storefront operators to help streamline the production and delivery of digital entertainment. Rovi will also demonstrate its professional production solutions for DVD and Blu-ray Disc production.
  • Rovi TotalGuide for CE unifies search, discovery and recommendations to provide consumers with one destination where they can access content seamlessly from broadband and broadcast services. TotalGuide for CE is expected to ship on Toshiba TVs in spring 2012 in Europe.
  • Rovi Entertainment Store™ is a white-label, end-to-end solution that provides sophisticated store-front technology that enables online stores and portals to deploy over-the-top video services.

Through its collaboration with leading technology providers in the ecosystem, conference highlights include the following demonstrations also at the Rovi booth:

  • DivX Plus® Streaming ported to a Broadcom platform: Rovi's recently announced DivX Plus Streaming is an adaptive streaming solution for the secure delivery of feature-rich, premium digital entertainment content to connected devices.  DivX Plus Streaming integrated into Broadcom's System-on-a-Chip platforms for set-top boxes and connected digital TVs is designed to enable service providers and CE manufacturers to deliver a full-featured over-the-top movie and TV entertainment experience.  
  • Rovi TotalGuide™ and ANT Galio Platform: Rovi and ANT Software Limited have joined forces to demonstrate how an HTML version of Rovi TotalGuide, a metadata- and multimedia-rich entertainment discovery solution, can be deployed on HbbTV-compatible CE devices via the ANT Galio platform. The ANT Galio platform in combination with Rovi TotalGuide enables HbbTV users to view extended programming information on TV shows and movies and select channels to view.

In addition, Adam Powers, VP of Technology at Rovi, will participate in the Technology Advancements Track session, "Stereo 3DTV Graphics - Investigating the Issues in Depth" on Saturday, September 10 at 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Room E102. Adam will present his paper, co-authored by Bill Korbecki of Rovi, titled "Video Content Navigation Design and Techniques for Stereoscopic 3D Television Displays."
