BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mobile World Congress 2012 -- Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI) and Pantech Wireless, Inc. – the U.S.-based subsidiary of Pantech Co., Ltd., one of Korea's largest mobile phone manufacturers – today announced Pantech's new Pantech Element tablet has achieved DivX® HD certification. The first DivX Certified®Pantech tablet for the US market, the Android-based Pantech Element is available through AT&T. The collaboration is the result of a DivX technology licensing agreement between Rovi and Pantech, expanding the number of DivX Certified tablets and smartphones in the US carrier market and further contributing to Rovi's accelerating momentum with mobile OEMs. Rovi will be demonstrating DivX Plus HD at Mobile World Congress, February 27 to March 1, 2012 (The Avenue - AV90).

"With its DivX HD certification the Pantech Element will help consumers take advantage of faster mobile network speeds to watch high-quality video, and at the same time it will support efficient battery usage and provide interoperability with other certified devices in the home and on the go," said Tae Hyub Khim, SVP of Product Planning Division, Pantech. Certified DivX HD devices are rigorously tested to play back both personal and protected premium video content in the DivX (.divx and .avi) format, offering stunning visual quality with video resolutions up to 720p. DivX Certified devices contain digital rights management technology to enable the secure playback of premium content in the DivX format via optical disc, USB drive, or streamed over a home network using DLNA, which helps consumers easily access and enjoy the wide range of internet and Hollywood video entertainment available across an extensive, multi-manufacturer ecosystem of consumer electronics devices.

"With the support of DivX HD technology, Pantech is demonstrating its commitment to quality, compatibility, battery life, and other important aspects of the Android user experience," said Matt Milne, executive vice president, worldwide sales and marketing, Rovi.
